Standing Outside The Fire

Posted on Updated on

This week’s Poetry Tuesday feature is “Standing Outside The Fire” by Garth Brooks. What is there for me to say about this song? So much more than a country song. I love it. It speaks deeply to me. We all pay a price in life whether we know it or not. My price is I have to be in the fire. I have to dance in the flame. I have to always be stretching and reaching for more. It is who I am. It is who God made me to be. It is not easy. But I am who I am. And though sometimes I am misunderstood, I have come to the place of being comfortable in my skin. I have loved this song from the first time I heard it. At the time, it put into lyrics what I had never been able to say. I also love the video and it’s story line that I posted below. Be blessed my friends and never be afraid to seek your dreams and take a risk. You may get burned, but you might also end up far beyond all that you can imagine.

Standing Outside the Fire

We call them cool
Those hearts that have no scars to show
The ones that never do let go
And risk the tables being turned

We call them fools
Who have to dance within the flame
Who chance the sorrow and the shame
That always comes with getting burned

But you’ve got to be tough when consumed by desire
‘Cause it’s not enough just to stand outside the fire

We call them strong
Those who can face this world alone
Who seem to get by on their own
Those who will never take the fall

We call them weak
Who are unable to resist
The slightest chance love might exist
And for that forsake it all

They’re so hell-bent on giving ,walking a wire
Convinced it’s not living if you stand outside the fire

Standing outside the fire
Standing outside the fire
Life is not tried, it is merely survived
If you’re standing outside the fire

There’s this love that is burning,
Deep in my soul
Constantly yearning to get out of control
Wanting to fly higher and higher
I can’t abide,

Standing outside the fire
Standing outside the fire
Standing outside the fire
Life is not tried, it is merely survived
If you’re standing outside the fire

Standing outside the fire
Standing outside the fire
Life is not tried, it is merely survived
If you’re standing outside the fire
